Does Sassa Still Use The Cash Send Option For R350 Grant Payments?

R350 Grant Payments

The South African Social Security Agency(Sassa) is still in the process of paying out the R350 grant to all qualifying applicants. However, if you are curious as to which grant payment collection methods Sassa currently has in place, then the following answer may be of interest to you.

As R350 grant recipients may be well aware, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) uses various payment methods to disburse the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

This ensures that grant recipients receive their grants as quickly and conveniently as possible.

These grant collection methods include the South African Post, payment to a beneficiary’s personal bank account, payment collection from Pick N Pay or Boxer Stores, Checkers, Shoprite, Usave and selected OK Foods Supermarkets.

But since the R350 has been reinstated, does Sassa also currently use the cash send option? The answer is no. Sassa says:
This category has, unfortunately, not been paid as yet that this is due to the fact that SASSA had to go through a procurement process to use this payment method with the banks, and National Treasury will shortly finalize this procurement process.
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant gives temporary support to people who are in such desperate financial need that they are unable to meet the most basic necessities of their families.

The SRD may be in the form of a food parcel or a voucher to buy food. Some provinces give this assistance in the form of R350 cash.
