Ireland on a Budget

A trip to Ireland doesn’t have to break the bank. There are plenty of deals and steals out there that will greatly reduce the cost of a trip to this marvellous island and finding them doesn’t require great detective skills or the luck of the Irish: you just have to be a bit crafty, a bit persistent, and a bit flexible.

First, check with the major Irish airlines. These are more likely to run deals on flights than the competing international airlines. More importantly, the major Irish airlines fly more routes into more Ireland destinations then a carrier like American Airlines will and this gives you great flexibility in planning a vacation.

Second, stay away from major hotel chains when looking for a place to stay. Instead, you should investigate hostels and bed and breakfasts. Hostels are great if you are young and looking for a communal experience that will open up more opportunities when it comes to the Irish nightlife. Staying in a hostel will likely result in meeting great friends and travelling buddies and it’s cheaper than a night at the Hilton. Bed and Breakfasts are a good cheap option for the more mature budget-wise traveller. And with breakfast and dinner almost always included, you can count on great home-cooked meals.
